Extending Pole
The extension pole has many uses. It comes in handy as a hiking stick, a way to reach caches up high, and a great pole to stick a magnet to to pick up a magnetic cache. Poles come in many different shapes and sizes with many different uses for each.
- A short 24 inch extension pen can be purchased at a hardware store for under $3. These are not very sturdy but come in handy to pick up a little magnet just out of reach. They also store easily in a cache box or bag, or in the pocket and are very portable.
- A medium 3-4 foot pole, like those used for skiing, is great as a hiking stick on those long hikes to grab caches, it also can be used to push brush and thorns aside, and with some duct tape and a magnet or hook, can be used to grab caches well out of reach.
- A longer 20-30 foot pole is needed to grab many of the terrain 5 caches around Peoria, IL. These polls telescope out and are made of sturdy plastic. In a matter of minutes, one can extend his reach to easily grab a cache stuck to a bridge or in a tree. Make sure to keep duct tape, coat hangers, and magnets around to modify the end of the pole at a moment's notice.
